North American Alumni Association
|
Today, there are approximately 400 Christian Medical College, Ludhiana (CMC) graduates living in
the United States and Canada. They are members of the North American Alumni Association, formed
to keep in touch with each other and to help their alma-mater. They are working in some of the
most notable medical institutions and are providing outstanding medical care to the American and
Canadian public. They are some of the most recognizable members of their profession and civic
community.
In 1998, the association called upon the Christian Medical College Board, USA, to join with them
in revitalizing their institution. Accordingly, the "Operation Rescue" program was started.
Alumni were urged to participate in helping with the special needs of Christian Medical College
and Hospital Ludhiana. This was done through donations of funds and stock certificates, volunteer
service in India, plus donations of equipment, books and supplies to be sent in container
shipments. Endowments have been set up to support the Department of Medicine and various
scholarships for students. Today, "Operation Rescue" is still in effect and we welcome funds from
the association for CMC Ludhiana.
We have received notable support from some of the association members. Dr. Silas Charles, has
given several years of management consultation in the administration of Christian Medical College
and Hospital. Another, Dr. Sewa Legha, has also donated time and energy in the academic and
research aspects of the Medical College in addition to his expertise in oncology. Numerous other
medical specialists among the alumni have gone on an annual or semi-annual basis to provide
seminars and guidance at Ludhiana.
Since Operation Rescue began, they have been meeting annually. If you are a graduate of the
Ludhiana Christian Medical College and would like more information on the association, please
contact us.
